Beijing - spit shine

China is full of rules and regulations.

Some make sense.

Some are downright bizarre.

We tried today to get into the Bird’s Nest stadium, but were denied because we didn’t have a special badge given to those working on the rehearsal for the Opening Ceremony. That made sense.

The sign in the exercise room in the media village that says “No shouting” makes no sense.

I’m not sure what to think about the placard in the elevator at our media village that says no spitting.

I read that spitting is very common in Beijing. But the elevators in the media village are mainly used by foreign reporters.

But wait. There was a maid on the elevator as I was leaving the media village this morning.

Spitting maids? Oh my. I can’t wait to see how well they cleaned my bathroom.
