Ask Carley: When to confirm details with wedding vendors

Q: I know we should confirm times and location with all of our wedding vendors, but when should we call?

A: You should get in touch with vendors at least two days -- but no more than a week -- ahead of time to make sure everything is in order.

If it's more than a week before the wedding, you won't be at the top of your vendors' minds. It's better to wait until the week of when they're focused on that weekend's events.

Some vendors will call you a few days before the event, so you should have all the essential information, like exact times and addresses, ready to go. Not sure when the other must-dos should happen? Print out a personalized pre-wedding checklist at TheKnot.com/checklist.
