Q: It's been months since I've had any contact with my DJ, and I'm getting worried since my wedding is two months away! I'm obviously going to look for a new DJ, but what do I do about getting my deposit back?
A: There's a good chance your DJ has gone out of business. First, check your contract; there should be information about what happens in a case like this. Some vendors might actually specify in the contract that deposits are nonrefundable. If that's the case, the road ends there. If there's nothing addressing deposits in the contract and your DJ has gone out of business, chances are that he or she won't be able to pay you back anyway. Here's where wedding insurance would come in handy; you'd likely get a full refund if you have coverage. As a last resort, you could try to sue your DJ for breaking the contract.
