6th grade teacher charged with biting off part of stranger's ear

A Minnesota middle school teacher is accused of biting off a piece of a stranger's ear while she was in a St. Paul cafe early Sunday and then picking the evidence up off the floor and concealing it in her mouth.

Susan M. Mwarabu, 30, of Rochester, was charged Monday with third-degree felony assault and was released from the Ramsey County jail.

According to the charges against the sixth-grade teacher at Northfield Middle School:

The victim, a 33-year-old man, told police shortly before 4:30 a.m. Sunday that he was eating at the Uptowner Cafe with friends. At another table were four females, including Mwarabu, who appeared intoxicated. The two groups of people had not known each other.

One of the man's friends commented about one of the women as she ate French fries. Mwarabu "gave him a look" and later approached the friend, "leaned down, licked his face and appeared as if she was going to throw up."

The victim's friend "gently" pushed her away. Mwarabu then started licking the victim's ear, and he "moved her back from him."

Mwarabu then bit off part of his ear, leaving him bleeding and saying that he was in shock.

One of the men in the victim's group said he saw Mwarabu pick up the piece of the ear off the floor and put it in her mouth.

The victim had emergency surgery and was told that some of the ear would grow back.
