Class of 2009
New ships scheduled to premiere this year:
AIDA Cruises: AIDAluna (2,050 passengers, 69,200 gross tons, April); German cruise line's third newly built ship; sister to AIDAbella and AIDAdiva.
What's ahead in vacation cruise travel
On the surface, it would seem as though cruise travelers have smooth sailing ahead. There are more ships than ever -- including the next new biggest on the planet -- carrying more passengers to more regions of the world and, with the exception of a pesky stretch of Somali coastline, travel by sea is probably safer than it has ever been and definitely safer than in most popular cities.
Drink in the atmosphere at bed-and-breakfast near Vineyards
If you'd like to dip into presidential history and taste a variety of wines, the Monticello Wine Trail is a great destination with 22 wineries.
There's a gorgeous new bed-and-breakfast eight miles from Barboursville Vineyards and just one mile from Montpelier, the home of James Madison that was recently restored by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Jefferson country is also wine country
Thomas Jefferson brimmed with optimism about his countrymen's prospects for producing wine worthy of a crystal glass.

Great gifts for the travelers on your list
A lump of coal, we realize, might be beyond your budget this holiday season. But if you've got any disposable income left, we have some suggestions for the traveler on your gift list. What follows are items my colleague Spud Hilton and I have field-tested over the last year and can personally vouch for.
Italy's Amalfi Coast serves up glorious food, shopping, views
Here's what you expect on a visit to the Campania region in southern Italy. Fresh pasta that's literally to die for. Equally delicious red wine that, no matter how much you drink of it, never gives you a headache. Scenery so gorgeous along the dizzying, winding Amalfi Coast that you have to pinch yourself to make sure you're not dreaming.
