Morrow TV: New shows -- and returning favorites

And a new season begins.

The emphasis this fall is decidedly on more comedy.

Some sitcoms have familiar faces in new roles (Kelsey Grammer, Courteney Cox, Jenna Elfman). Others bring back favorites in new settings ("The Cleveland Show," "The Jay Leno Show").

Morrow TV: Jay Leno gets a jump start for the fall

"The Jay Leno Show" is getting a week's jump on the official start of the fall season.

Debuting 10 p.m. Monday, "Jay Leno" has been dubbed the most anticipated new show of the season. Perhaps that's true only because of its novelty -- Leno hosting an hour-long comedy show Monday through Friday.

Morrow-TV: 'Glee' serves up second episode ... Other shows of note

"Glee" -- one of the best new offerings of the fall -- serves up its long-awaited second episode (9 p.m. EDT Wednesday, Fox).

The pilot aired in May after an edition of "American Idol," and it was repeated last week. Now, after months of anticipation, we finally get to see if "Glee" can live up to its promise.

So does "Glee" sing as well this time?

Morrow-TV: Daytime Emmys presented ... Other shows of interest

Unfortunately, the death of daytime drama couldn't be more evident than at the 2009 Daytime Emmys (8 p.m. EDT Sunday, CW).

Oh, the irony: These Emmys should be a celebration of the genre. Instead, the show is a sad reminder of what's all wrong these days.

After being offered a role in the new "Halloween II," Margot Kidder turned to the Internet to see what director Rob Zombie was all about.

"All the kids in town said, 'You haven't heard of Rob Zombie? He's cool.' I Googled him," she says. "My first thought was, 'Oh my! His music sure is loud.' "

"Mad Men" anti-hero Don Draper puts it best this way: "There will be fat years, and there will be lean years, but it is going to rain."

He's talking about the raincoat business in the third-season opener of "Mad Men" (10 p.m. EDT Sunday, AMC). But he could very well be addressing the state of prime-time television itself.

TV: Where's Chris Kattan? Now he's 'Bollywood Hero' star

Where's Chris Kattan been?

"Some people ask me, 'What are you doing now?' I tell them, 'Well, I'm not choosing bad projects,' " says the 38-year-old former "Saturday Night Live" star. "I don't need to be seen all the time. I'm OK with that."

Kattan is coming back to the small screen in a big way in the three-night IFC miniseries "Bollywood Hero."
