SALT LAKE CITY - When Elizabeth Smart emerged from a federal courthouse in Salt Lake City, she celebrated not only her own triumph but also the possibility of justice for all victims.

Eight years after Brian David Mitchell kidnapped her and subjected her to near-daily rapes, a jury found Mitchell guilty last Friday.

SALT LAKE CITY - Some parents are calling on a school district to stop spreading "false educational ideas." First and foremost, the parents say, the district needs to clamp down on its use of the D-word: "democracy."

Salt Lake City resident Candice Metzler wanted to let her work colleagues see the transition she already had begun in her personal life. Known to them as a man, Metzler wore mascara, eyeliner and white-tipped acrylic nails to a company barbecue.

Three months later, Metzler, was unemployed and homeless.

When the LDS Church called upon its members to "do all you can" to back California's proposed gay-marriage ban, it inspired Utah entrepreneur Bruce Bastian. He donated $1 million -- to the opposition.
