McNulty: PGA Tour uses wise backspin on fining Tiger
Smart guy, that Tim Finchem.
On Monday, The Associated Press breaks a story quoting an anonymous PGA Tour official who claims Tiger Woods will be fined for publicly criticizing a rules official after winning the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
On Tuesday, the story is dead.
Or at least denied.
Finchem, the Tour commissioner, made sure of that.
McNulty: Meyer worth every penny to Gators
Worth.
Every.
Penny.
And probably more.
That might seem absurd, paying a college football coach $4 million per year, especially in these challenging economic times, when many universities are cutting budgets, reducing faculty and shrinking enrollments.
McNulty: Minaya's tirade should be final straw
I keep trying to put myself in that room at Citi Field, where the New York Mets found yet another way to embarrass themselves.
McNulty: This season needs to be Bowden's farewell
There's nothing fair about any of this.
Not to Bobby Bowden.
Not to Jimbo Fisher.
Not to Florida State football fans.
McNulty: In Florida, equitable not always fair
Times are tough? Take something away from our kids.
After all, this is the great state of Florida, right? This is the state that ranks second-to-last -- 50th on a list of 51, including the District of Columbia -- in per-pupil spending on public education compared to its relative wealth.
McNulty: Wagner stiffs reporters
You want to know how Billy Wagner's left arm felt Tuesday after he threw off a pitching mound for the first time since undergoing elbow-reconstruction surgery in September? So do I.
So do most New York Mets fans, including the thousands who live along the Treasure Coast and elsewhere.
But Wagner, the Mets closer for the past three seasons, wasn't talking.
McNulty: Saban lived, loved football
He was the president of the New York Yankees in 1981-82.
I met him in 1983.
On a football field.
That's where Lou Saban spent most of his adult life. That's where he belonged. And, really, it didn't matter where, or on what level.
Pro.
College.
Even high school.
McNulty: Florida prep sports need Obama bailout
Dear Barack: Can I call you that? I figured, since seeing you fill out your NCAA hoops bracket on ESPN and become the first sitting U.S. president to appear on "The Tonight Show," it was OK to dispense with the formalities.
Anyway, I'm writing because we, the people of St. Lucie County here in Florida, need your help.
For our school kids.
