If someone remade "Rashomon" with "Bourne" sensibilities, it might look something like "Vantage Point."

While dance movies have made a comeback in recent years, they haven't always been well regarded critically. That made dancer-turned-actor Will Kemp slightly leery of doing "Step Up 2 the Streets.""I have to be honest, very often when you hear about these kinds of movies, you do think, 'Oh gosh, they're really cheesy,' right?" says Kemp.

"The Spiderwick Chronicles" brings the magic home for those who don't have Harry Potter's powers. A charmed tale grounded in reality, the film is as much about the real world as it is about the magical one. It's made with such finesse by the actors and director Mark Waters that the reality and fantasy are seamless.

"Step Up 2 the Streets" takes steps to distinguish itself from the original "Step Up."It's about a troubled teen girl from Baltimore, not a troubled teen guy. The female lead is a dope street dancer, not a disciplined ballet dancer.

With his latest film -- "Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights -- Hollywood to the Heartland" -- Vince Vaughn really is going old-school.

The combination of Matthew McConaughey and Kate Hudson, gorgeous tropical waters and a hunt for sunken Spanish treasure ought to add up to fluffy midwinter fun. But "Fool's Gold" betrays its assets with leaden direction and a water-logged script.

The title "Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show: 30 Days & 30 Nights -- Hollywood to the Heartland" gives a fair impression of what's in the movie. But the rambling assortment of words meant for movie marquees falls short of conveying the raucous, energetic spirit of this comic delight.

The world may not be ready for Colin Farrell's latest role. After filling his resume with iconic historical figures and larger-than-life action heroes and villains, the Irish actor is playing a normal guy -- almost -- in "Cassandra's Dream."

"Strange Wilderness" takes a talented cast and a promising premise and strands them in the woods with hardly a laugh at their disposal.

It doesn't take a shrink to realize that Hollywood is at its most schizophrenic early in the year.
