Just the thing to do at 92
At the age of 92, Hope Smith won’t fall for just any idea.
But she fell — 10,000 feet to be exact — for the idea of skydiving during a visit this week to see her grandson, Scott Smith.
The opportunity to skydive proved irresistible to this Merrill Gardens resident, who took advantage Monday of an opportunity to fulfill one of her lifelong dreams.
As an early-morning threat of rain cleared and the clouds broke apart, Smith jumped out of an airplane at 10,000 feet in a tandem freefall and parachuted safely to the ground six minutes later.

In high school, he led LaGrange to the Class 2A state title, knocking off Childress 27-6 in the championship game.
“People are always asking me who was the best player we ever played against. I tell them Johnnie Johnson is right up there at the top of the list,” former Childress coach Charlie Johnston told me.
