Thunder on the Ohio could move to late summer
The American Boat Racing Association has taken a giant step toward saving Thunder on the Ohio.
The ABRA board of directors voted to acquire the physical assets of the Evansville Freedom Festival along with specified liabilities as a first step toward hosting the 31st running of Thunder next summer.
During Friday’s teleconference, the ABRA Board finalized an offer to the Freedom Festival and agreed to move forward with obtaining the necessary approvals and commitments needed to stage the race next August or September.

Jasper man accused of sexual battery
Indiana State Police detectives have arrested a Jasper, Ind., man for sexual battery. It’s alleged that Glenndyl Fromme, 60, sexually battered a 23-year-old woman in October. The probe began this week and detective Rob Gardner found enough evidence to arrest Fromme at his home Thursday. Fromme is being held in the Dubois County Jail without bond. — Rich Davis

Terre Haute plastics company laying off 100
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — A Terre Haute company that makes plastic film plans to lay off about 100 workers next month, citing a larger than normal seasonal drop in orders. Bemis Co. vice president Melanie Miller says customers who have seasonal business were unwilling to place their orders early, as they have in previous years. One of the company’s major products is plastic overwrap for packages of bottled water. Bemis employs about 1,000 workers at its Terre Haute plant. The layoffs will be effective Dec. 1.
